Out of the Blue

by on May 8, 2013

And we also thank God continually because, when you received the word of God, which you heard from us, you accepted it not as a human word, but as it actually is, the word of God, which is indeed at work in you who believe.

– 1 Thessalonians 2:13

Does it ever occur to you out of the blue, how incredible it is that when you open the pages of Scripture, you are not only being given an opportunity to read the accounts of people of faith and action, to observe how God has moved throughout history, but to also get a glimpse into the very mind of the infinite God of the Universe Himself? We get to see His compassion and pure love for us. We get to see what angers Him, and keeps us from growing more deeply in our relationship with Him.

As the Word of God is opened before our eyes, it works its way into our minds. Once there, it promises to continue to work its way to our hearts; changing and transforming us as we willingly submit to the lead of the Holy Spirit. Its work transforms us by the renewing of our minds, as Paul reminds us in Romans 12.

One last thing… I started off asking if you ever had an understanding of Scripture that occurred “out of the blue.” That, too, is a work of the Holy Spirit, and not of ourselves, lest any of us feel the need to boast.
