A King’s Banquet for All – Week 2

by on January 19, 2015

From January through Easter we are doing a church-wide study of the Gospel of Mark. Each week we distribute study questions to help lead you into discussions with your family and friends. Below are the questions from week 2.

Click here to listen to the Week 2 Sermon from Pastor Jim.

  • Simon and Andrew and James and John (Mark 1:16-20) and Levi (Mark 2:14) all immediately left their work to follow Jesus.
  • Do you think it was easy for the disciples to make the choice to leave their homes, families, friends and careers to follow Jesus?
  • Why do you think they were willing to follow Jesus on such short notice rather than offering to join him later?
  • Imagine if Jesus showed up to your work, and called you away from it to follow him? How might you respond? What do you think it means to hear his call, “Follow me,” today?
  • What were the main reasons for the Pharisee’s reaction to Jesus eating with ‘sinners’?
  • Why is the ‘banquet theme’ important to the Messianic Kingdom promised to Israel?
  • What can we learn from Jesus’s response to Levi’s friends that will apply to our witness for Christ today?
