What God Has Given – Week 3

by on January 19, 2015

From January through Easter we are doing a church-wide study of the Gospel of Mark. Each week we distribute study questions to help lead you into discussions with your family and friends. Below are the questions from week 3.

  • The paralyzed mans’ four friends not only took time to bring him to Jesus, but were willing to damage the roof knowing they would probably have to fix it later. Are there people you care about enough to go to this much effort to help them encounter Jesus? If so, what can you do to begin this process?
  • Why was it so upsetting to the teachers of the law to hear Jesus tell the man his sins were forgiven?
  • What would you say to someone that currently has a hard time understanding that Jesus really can and wants to forgive our sins?
  • Think about a time when you were in a large crowd. What do you think it would have been like to be in the crowds surrounding Jesus? What do you think the perspective of the following different people might have been: Disciples? Pharisees? Sick? Jesus? Others?
  • Is Jesus breaking the Sabbath and encouraging his disciples to do the same? Are there religious rules that we have today that Jesus would offend others by breaking?
