From January through Easter we are doing a church-wide study of the Gospel of Mark. Each week we distribute study questions to help lead you into discussions with your family and friends. Below are the questions from week 7.

  • Jesus could have spoken a word or just given a silent command for the people to be healed, but he chose to have physical contact with most of them. Do you have any thoughts as to why? Why do you think he uses his spit to heal in the case of the blind man and the deaf man?
  • Jesus showed compassion and patience toward the failings and lack of faith or understanding of the masses of people but challenged those things more with the people He was closest to.  Why would He have treated them differently?
  • The people were overwhelmed with amazement at the wonderful things Jesus had done. Can you think of an experience when you were overwhelmed at what Jesus’s had done for you or your family?
  • Have you ever felt like you had eyes but failed to see and ears but failed to hear a message God was wanting to share with you? What are ways that we can make ourselves spiritually blind and deaf to what God might be doing?
  • Why do the Pharisees ask for a sign from Jesus after all the miracles that he’s done? Why do you think Jesus refuses to give one?
  • Is there a modern day equivalent to the yeast of the Pharisees that we should watch out for?
